In light of the discovery of the exotic pest Russian wheat aphid in crops in South Australia, the first task for grain growers nationally is to check their own crops of wheat and barley for signs of this insect, according to Grain Producers Australia.

GPA biosecurity spokesman Barry Large said the grain industry’s biosecurity systems in all states are fully operational to address this incursion, working with plans developed several years ago through the national plant biosecurity coordination agency, Plant Health Australia, which were funded with the assistance of the Grains Research and Development Corporation.
