As news of a Federal Election date is likely just days away, Grain Producers Australia has highlighted escalating costs and maintaining competitiveness in the world market as key policy priorities.
ABC North West WA journalist Jo Prendergast spoke to GPA Chair and WA grower Barry Large on the policy priorities informed by key grain industry leaders at their National Policy Council meeting in held WA recently.
" The main thing that is on everyone's mind is the cost of growing a crop," he said.
Lowering farm input costs is rates very high on the agenda from our grower-focused policy priorities.
"Ongoing access to agricultural pesticides is right up there as well."

Mr Large said regulatory burdens and red tape that slow down processes or access for growers to use technologies was a real concern.
"As a grain grower myself, you've got to be concerned at the price of fertiliser, the access to chemical and technologies," he said.
"What I would've hoped we had learned by now, particularly as a lesson from COVID, is that we do need some domestic infrastructure here in Australia to try and reduce the price of fertiliser and shore up supply."
