An allocation in the federal budget to alternative fuels from food waste will help decarbonise industries that use diesel and aviation fuels.
Grain Producers Australia Southern Region Director Andrew Wiedemann spoke to ABC about the potential for farmers to use the byproducts of their canola crops to make fuels locally rather than relying on overseas processing.
"From our point of view, you know we're selling canola today and have been over the last decade to the European Union where they've been actually turning our canola into biodiesel," he said.
"So I think it's only fair that we have a crack at it here, but obviously it all comes down to economics. "
