The Russian-Ukrainian conflict is resulting in soaring grain prices and Australian farmers have vowed to give back to the country that is usually a global competitor.
National lobby group Grain Producers Australia has launched the Grain4Ukraine fundraising appeal, calling on farmers to donate grain and display the Ukrainian flag on farm machinery and post photographs to social media during this year's seeding, which has just started in Western Australia.
Grain Producers Australia sub-committee member and grain analyst Andrew Whitelaw said Australian farmers wanted to avoid profiteering and help people just like them.
"Farmers are going to get high prices this year off the back of this conflict," he said. "It is a nice thing to do, to donate some of that grain to assist the people of Ukraine."
