An end to a legal challenge asserting glyphosate causes Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma will allow Australia's farmers to continue responsible use of the chemical in their work to feed the world.
ABC Country Hour presenter Angus Verley spoke to Grain Producers Australia Research, Development and Extension Spokesperson Andrew Weidemann who said while it was an expected result after the initial stages of the case, it was positive for the industry.
"It's a vital product worldwide and in Australia, it's an essential product we use for summer weed control," he said.
"We've seen the effects of good summer weed practices with increasing harvests around the country and this relies on the use of this key tool."
Mr Weidemann said the science behind the herbicide was sound and used safely, glyphosate is safe for farmers and other users to utilise.
"In my mind, glyphosate is the safest product I use on my farm," he said.
Mr Weidemann said the focus needed to be on producing the food for the world's growing population and how supply chains function.
"The use of glyphosate is a key building block to agriculture being able to increase production," he said.
