News that the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) has extended its time allocated to reviewing the used of key herbicides paraquat and diquat has been welcomed by key grain grower advocacy group Grain Producers Australia.
In an interview with ABC Victoria Country Hour, GPA Research, Development and Extension Spokesperson Andrew Weidemann said it made sense for the APVMA to extend its timelines, particularly when considering the amount of responses and information received in the public consultation period.

Mr Weidemann said these herbicides were critical for grain producers to carry out modern sustainable crop production and there needed to be consideration of the science produced by a leading environmental scientist with respect to animal and bird risk.
