ABC VICTORIA COUNTRY HOUR | Grains industry takes the lead on biosecurity management

The Biosecurity Plan for the Grains Industry was launched by key industry partners at the Australian Grains Industry Conference in Melbourne.

The Plan, a guide for industry and Governments to protect, prepare and prevent biosecurity risks affecting the grains and wider plant system in Australia identifies more than 1300 pest and diseases as potential threats.

ABC Victoria Country Hour spoke to Grain Producers Australia Chair Barry Large and Plant Health Australia Chief Executive Officer Sarah Corcoran about the Plan and what it means for the industry.

Mr Large, a grower in Western Australia, said good biosecurity preparedness protects market access and the livelihoods of Australian grain growers.

"It's exciting to invest grower dollars that have been collected and put it back into protecting our position," he said.

"We can measure results and be accountable for projects that are benefitting growers."
