FARM ONLINE | Farm sector duopoly fears: Is the Elders-Delta deal one takeover too many?

A proposed deal which would see Elders merge with Delta Agribusiness has sounded alarm bells within the farm business sector.


The future of the deal sits with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and the final decision has now been delayed, which was a move welcomed by Grain Producers Australia.


Farm Online reported that Elders and Delta has committed to retaining brand independence and keeping stores open, a key competition concern for farmers.

Western Australian grower and GPA Western Region Director Duncan Young spoke to Farm Online and raised concerns the merger would create a duopoly.


"In reality, if history is any indicator, one of those stores will eventually close or be absorbed by the other," he said.
