Labor's biosecurity tax proposal will go down in history as one of the Albanese government's least popular pieces of proposed agricultural policy.
Farm Weekly reported that farm lobby group Grain Producers Australia was quick to applaud the government's decision to shut down its plan, saying growers were breathing a "collective sigh of relief".

GPA Chair and WA grain producer Barry Large said one of GPA's major concerns with the proposal was it failed to acknowledge that grain producers already contribute to biosecurity funding via a levy system and this proposal would be an additional cost to their bottom line.
"There was also a serious lack of consultation during the policy design process, which led to its fundamental design flaws - and that's why it ultimately failed to win the support needed, to pass parliament," he said.
