Use of herbicide minimisation technology which allows growers to spot spray weeds with paraquat will be banned if proposed regulatory changes are confirmed.
Farm Weekly highlighted work by Grain Producers Australia to lobby for the practice to continue, as concerns for sustainability of the industry became very real.
GPA Interim Chief Executive Pete Arkle is encouraging growers to provide the data from their use of this technology to inform the organisations efforts to convince Australia's chemical regulator to reconsider its recommendation.
"Shielded spraying has been a great innovation that has allowed Australian farmers to really cut down on the overall volume of herbicide that is going out," Mr Arkle said.
"We want to have the hard data to show the amount of product that is saved and why the current rates are required for full efficacy on the weeds people are targeting with shielded systems."
