The removal of the biosecurity levy bill from the Senate this week has grain producers around the country relieved.
Grain Producers Australia has been leading strong and sustained opposition since the biosecurity tax was first proposed in the 2023 Federal Budget.
Grain Central reported that GPA welcomed the news and thanked the members of parliament who engaged with the agricultural industry to hear the concerns and fight against the proposal.

GPA Chair and WA grower Barry Large said members of the Coalition, independent members and the Australian Greens, led by agriculture spokesperson Senator Peter Whish-Wilson were instrumental in stopping the flawed policy from going ahead.
Mr Large said the proposed legislation was inequitable and ignored the fact grain producers already contribute significant funding in various levies, directly off the bottom lines of their businesses.
