A Plan to strengthen biosecurity protections and safeguard Australia's $32 billion grains industry was launched at the Australian Grains Industry Conference.
It will guide industry, government and stakeholders to prevent, prepare for and respond to potential incursions that would affect the grains industry.
The Australian Grains Industry Biosecurity Plan came about following collaboration by key stakeholders including Plant Health Australia, Grain Producers Australia, Grains Research and Development Corporation and Grain Growers.
Grain Central attended the launch where GPA chair and Western Australian grain producer Barry Large said the plan’s launch was good news for all Australian grain producers, and the wider grains industry and economy, and the start of a longer journey to increase biosecurity capacity and capability.
“Everyone will benefit from this new uplift in investments, actions and activities to help strengthen biosecurity protections specific to the grains sector not just growers," he said.
“This also demonstrates that we’re talking the talk and walking the walk on biosecurity by harnessing our resources and being proactive to further protect the profitability and sustainability of our industry.”
