Growers using automated spot-spraying records could provide key evidence of reduced and targeted herbicide use to support ongoing use of paraquat and diquat on Australian farms.
Grain Producers Australia is partnering with John Deere to call on growers using John Deere See and Spray Systems to provide reports from their last six applications.
GPA Interim Chief Executive Pete Arkle said See and Spray (SnS) Savings Reports, preferably where paraquat was used, will help GPA’s submission to the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) process.
“The APVMA is proposing major restrictions on the use of paraquat herbicides on Australian grain farms, including a ban on these critical products in automated spot-spraying systems,” Mr Arkle said.
“With the growing challenge of glyphosate resistance and the practice of reduced till farming critical to grain growing operations around the country, we are exploring all options to inform our submission.
“Growers know that automated spot-spraying technology is reducing the amount of herbicides being applied on farm, but the APVMA needs hard evidence to support this fact.
“To help our industry put forward a strong case to defend these key products, and no-till farming, we need your help!”
