An Easter escape to South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula with the family is just what grower James Venning needed before starting seeding.
James was one of six winners who shared in a $5000 prize pool in Grain Producers Australia’s Take-A-Break holiday competition.
The competition forms a part of GPA’s mental health initiative and encourages growers to take a break from the farm in the name of health and wellbeing.
“We hadn’t had a break as a family for a while and we took the opportunity to get away before we got really busy with seeding,” he said.
James, who farms with his family at Bute on SA’s Yorke Peninsula, said the nearby Fleurieu Peninsula offered some great beach locations and towns to explore with his wife and children.
“We went on the tourist Cockle Train along the coast, something I hadn’t ever visited but had always meant to try out, and just took the time to be together and create some memories,” he said.
“We would like to thank GPA and the supporters of the competition for the motivation to take some time away.”
GPA’s successful mental health partnership with Nufarm, GrainGrowers, Rural Aid and Lifeline. Last year’s theme focused on reminding farmers about the importance of taking a break from work to stay mentally and physically fit, fresh and healthy.
The Take-A-Break competition asked entrants to describe their ideal holiday destination in 25 words or less, to support this theme.
