Recent rains across Queensland have growers and agronomists quietly hopeful for the upcoming harvest.
The balance of rain needed for winter crop growth and timing for those preparing for summer crop planting was optimal.
Queensland Country Life spoke to AgForce grain section president and Grain Producers Australia board northern region director Brendan Taylor.
Mr Taylor said there was concern more rain beyond what had already been received could be "disastrous for crops in the northern regions".
"We had 50mm to 60mm last week to Sunday here and it lightened up as it went further south," Mr Taylor said.
"The rain did not get west of Roma.
"Now we are concerned about crops further north because more rain would be counter-productive, and if we get a sudden cold-snap in the south then it will impact chickpeas."
