cropping regions have swapped predicted outcomes when compared to last year, with the northern areas experiencing good rains while southern areas are dry.
Queensland Country Life gave a round-up of conditions around the country, indicating that Western Australian crop predictions being the surprise following good winter rainfall after a late and dry start to seeding.
Grain Producers Australia Southern Region Director and Rupanyup grower Andrew Weidemann said conditions were very dry and growers hoped the upcoming weather forecasts were accurate.
"We have subsoil moisture after a wet harvest but large parts of the Wimmera and Mallee have had 90mm or less for the growing season," he said.
"Crops are just starting to go off and if the rain forecast for this week fizzes and we keep up with this warm weather in three weeks' time things will be fairly dire."
however, GPA Northern Region Director and Moree grower Matthew Madden said conditions were ideal heading into spring.
However, he said some areas towards Gunnedah and Narrabri were too wet.
"We're set up well, there has been a near ideal amount of moisture, everything is looking in good health and there is subsoil moisture available," Mr Madden said.
"There are always things that can go wrong with the weather, but we're definitely happier with our lot than this time last year."
