STOCK & LAND | New VFF president flags new approach to national agricultural peak bodies

Incoming Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) President Brett Hosking has indicated national representation is important to delivering positive outcomes for members.

This follows the resignation of the VFF from seven peak national councils and the National Farmers Federation (NFF) as cost saving measures under former president Emma Germano.

Stock & Land spoke to Mr Hosking, who said the VFF would engage in good faith, but cost remained a key issue.

"The reality is the VFF has been left cash-flow poor, so it's about how do we get outcomes for our members," Mr Hosking said.

"It's my personal view that the peak bodies are pivotal to that, they play a significant role in advocating for, and also protecting, agricultural communities."

Grain Producers Australia was among one of the groups affected by this move and GPA Chair Barry Large reiterated the importance of strong national representation for Victorian grain producers.

"We've continued to remain engaged directly with the VFF Grains Group in recent times to ensure their representatives can continue providing a strong voice for their members, through to the GPA Policy Council," Mr Large said.
