The latest Australian Winter Crop Outlook has a slight increase in winter crop area forecast, with Victoria the only state expected to have a slightly reduced area planted this year.
The Weekly Times examined the report and highlighted that canola's sowing area is expected to drop by 12.7 per cent, 450,000 hectares to 3.11 million hectares.
However, Grain Producers Australia Chair and grower in Western Australia, Barry Large, said this figure could be higher as the dry season start had many WA growers leave the crop completely out of their rotation.
He told The Weekly Times that he expected barley plantings would be increased, with growers showing confidence in that crop in light of current conditions.
