A Federal Cabinet reshuffle has positioned Tasmanian MP Julie Collins as the Minister for Agriculture for the second time.
Ms Collins held the position for Labor in the lead up to the 2021 Federal Election, before outgoing Minister for Agriculture Murray Watt took on the position.
Queensland Senator Anthony Chisolm has been named as the Assistant Minister for this portfolio.
The Weekly Times reported on responses from across the agricultural sector to the announcement, with feedback being generally positive as leading groups called for a commonsense approach to policy.
Grain Producers Australia chair Barry Large said the new combination of agriculture and small business makes sense, recognising that farmers are running businesses and facing challenges not limited to the seasons and market fluctuations.
